on the road

I’m a big fan of being prepared. However, on the preparedness continuum I fall closer to the minimalist end most of the time. Once in a while I get a little closer to the boy scout end, but in hindsight those seemed overdone and burdensome.

I’m prepared, prepared to suck it up and take it on the chin and even walk it out.  It makes for lighter travel.

Being prepared for every possible contingency makes for one big heavy suitcase to lug around.  What if that happens? What if this happens? What if all of that goes wrong? You’re going to need something to deal with each of those things properly and perhaps a few more things just to deal with the difficulty of carrying those things you’re carrying. And how long is it going to take you to get ready to leave the house in the morning? What if it rains? What if this rain lets up and it gets really hot outside? What if you get a flat tire? What if your chain breaks?

What if?

just make sure you have at least six months worth of dry goods and water(clean) stored somewhere in your home. duct tape is a good thing to always have on hand, a practice run is never a bad idea.

10-4. You are SO right Bronco. And don't forget the visqueen, rolls and rolls of visqueen, you can never have too much. When the shit goes down I'll trade you a few yards of my vapor barrier for a pound of your lentils.
