a question a child might ask, but not a childish question

December 4, 2007

Daddy why is he talking into a zip-loc bag?

Oh, honey that’s a bike messenger…he’s talking on a cellphone.

What’s a bike messenger?

Well, it’s someone that spends a lot of time in the rain standing by and riding bikes delivering things...do you smell that? Well that’s what messengers smell like and when you're a little bit older maybe I'll be able to explain it to you.

Angie... when will those clouds all disappear?

from the Seattle Times:

Today's showers will be minor in comparison to yesterday, when Seattle saw 3.77 inches of rainfall — a record for that date. The most rain Seattle has seen in a single day was Oct. 20, 2003, when 5.02 inches fell.

I was working that day too, 10-20-3, subbing at WA Legal. Newman quit SeaLeg that day and I applied for his job and got it. Comes around goes around. Cycles. Circles.

Man, that rain has just got to suck. The last time we had rain anything like that I was getting downright nostalgic for the -25 cold snaps of my rookie years and big as snow dumps.
