No helmet: $103
Blowing two red lights: $103
Eye contact with motorcycle cop: $103
Questioning authority: $206

I’ve been pulled over a few times. Gotten a few tickets. Heard some interesting things from cops. But I’ve learned to look over my shoulder for the familiar colors of Seattle’s Finest while I casually roll through intersections. I’ve learned to listen for the sound of an SPD motorcycle. Most importantly I’ve learned not to make eye contact with the cop that was sitting there the whole time watching me blow all the lights on 3rd Avenue down to King County. And if I do get pulled over I keep my mouth shut. Long ago I was pulled over by the cop you see pictured here and I said “What?”  when he mumbled something to me and that was enough to get written up.

Late one night, One red light, no traffic in sight, a messenger with a little attitude and a little bud in his pocket got stopped by a bored cop and got himself a night in jail. True story.

Once upon a time, there was a bike messenger in Bellevue that got so many tickets, he had to move to Seattle. So many tickets, the police didn't even try to catch him because they couldn't. So many tickets, they just mailed them to his house because they knew who he was and where he lived. At least that's how he told it.

Hey matt, here's to six US$1 IPA's, big fat green nuggets, red lights, rad tunes, and having a keen head as to when one should keep ones mouth shut.

It was a fine time when the SPD changed from the almost mute Kawasaki to the loud rumble of the HD. Still, keep on your toes, I hear they're hiding everywhere, even in the planters.

got myself a nice $372 ticket the other week. 1 infraction for running a red on broadway and republican. an infraction for riding a brakeless track bike and an infraction for having no lights.

I never stop. Of course, I'm not a messenger, so I'm not "out there" all day long, so it's unlikely I'll get recognized and yanked later, not to mention that not being "out there" means I'm running fewer reds during the week. One of those things where you have to apply discretion on an individual basis each time, I suppose. Still, having to look for cops in addition to (bad) drivers can really put a crimp on the ol' system, I'd imagine. Tough...

It looks like Michael J Fox is about to smack him in the back of the head.
