I have my own set of issues. I always carry a set of brake pads until I hear metal grinding and at that moment, I make the 5 minute brake pad change. I rode my Aprilia with brake pads grinding on a front brake rotor for 2 weeks because I had a replacement rotor and pads, but no bolts for the rotor. I didn't crash or die, so it all turned out well.
