The health of the local economy can be judged by the amount of new construction taking place. Not just permits being requested but ground being broken. The city of Seattle has plenty of construction projects going on as we speak. New condos, office towers, retail space, retirement communities, hotels and more, much much more. When all this construction takes place the roads often need to be torn up as utilities are retrofitted or installed or repaired. Contractors are brought in from all over, Snohomish County, Pierce County, Skagit County even. They do all kinds of stuff behind the scenes, under the surface, deep down. But they also set up lots and lots of orange cones and arrows and signs. And they pay off-duty cops time 'n a half to stand around among the cones and give you the stink eye or wave their hands once in a while. I like to weave through these cones like an elementary school kid at a bike rodeo...
when there isn't much traffic you can take them slow and wide and weave through every one. You can even try it no- handed and just twitch your hips to make the turns. When traffic is heavy you can still weave through a couple cones and just that will bring a smile to my face. It's also a nice change of scenery, an eye opener. and you really appreciate the open roads when the long construction projects are over.
