flite

March 25, 2007

The Selle Italia Flite saddle. A classic. It's been around for years and it's got a large following. I consider myself a member of that fan club. Low profile and relatively comfortable with clean simple aggressive lines. Visualize a perforated black Flite. OK now visualize that saddle on my bike locked up outside in the rain on a Saturday night for 12 hours. Oh yeah and by the way it's on my partly cloudy - mostly sunny dry day bike with no fenders. You can almost smell that perforated low profile thirsty little sponge of a saddle out there in the rain standing by. OK now imagine me heading out after the festivities and unlocking my bike for the ride home wearing jeans and cotton boxer shorts. The rain continues to fall buy it's not bad. What is bad is all the standing water on the streets, the water that rockets off the back wheel straight onto my Flite saddle soaked cotton clad ass. Toss is some sand and road grime. This morning I remembered how much I like full fenders. I like my Flite saddle it's not her fault. Next time I'll boyscout it out and maybe cover her in a bag for the long night in the rain and ride one of the bikes with fenders. But a wet ride home to a shower and dry clothes is no problem compared to a wet ride into work followed by 9 more hours of riding in the rain. But that's another story.
