To the untrained eye, the casual observer, the passing tourist or the average working joe things are much the same. However, the messengers of Seattle have experienced a shift in the virtual vortex of the core. The invisible routing lines have changed. But if you could look at a map and see the lines we trace through the core, like the big dotted line tracing a circuitous path through the
Family Circus neighborhood, you would see the changes. This shift was created by the move of a large law firm three blocks south to a new office building.
When you take 200 attorneys, support staff, administration and all the hangers-on and move them, it leaves a wake. This law firm only moved three blocks and they moved into a building that is already full of attorneys so it’s actually an improvement. I used to pick and drop at Century Square all day long, now I go there once or twice a week.
Several years ago a large law firm moved from the City Center out to Pier 70. That move did not help legal messengers become more efficient. That move still smells as bad as the poorly ventilated offices on the Pier. But moves like that will become more common as Seattle develops North and South of the Core. The new Federal Court House moved the legal messenger vortex a bit to the North. The new uber-mega-corporate-legal messenger company base move really moved the legal messenger vortex to the South. But the little Seneca base helps to balance it out.
