Most times. Especially if you take the long way.

I think that the bike ride to work is the best part of the day for a lot of people, it's just that for some, the job they're riding to lets them do things like buy houses, take vacations, pay for college etc. If the job that you're riding to is in the bike industry, it's lot less likely that you'll be able to pay for any of these things, (imho, ime etc. etc.). It can be done of course, but if you're trying to avoid selling your soul to the corporate behemoth side of the biz, I think that your Snow Leopard comment is a good analogy.

Right on. I think we're on the same page literally as well as all the other ways we can be. a bad bike commute beats the bus any day and I feel like any kind of bike commute beats sitting in traffic in a bumper-to-bumper string of single occupant vehicles. And the snow leopard living wage bike industry job will continue to be a topic of discussion and frustration. PS I didn't get "that" job and it's not that I wanted it really,because I didn't and I don't, I just wanted to earn something closer to a living wage. word

That's a shame about the job. Fwiw, from where I sit, there's a place for you in the bike industry, and one that you can believe in, at company that would appreciate your skill set. I believe the same for myself. It's out there, but where exactly I don't know. Maybe it would just be easier to take the blue pill, and go along with the over hyped BS of the modern cycling industry, so as to make a buck? I don't believe that though. choking down those dry thorny red pills each and every day while those smooth sweet blue pills could go down by the hand full. which dovetails into the reasons why the book Stoner appeals to me in this facebook twitter economy. walking the walk for a while before talking the talk doesn't get one hired for the latest greatest job opening. employers take the bait on those big talking talkers that may or may not walk the walk only to be revealed later when we're the ones that have to pick up their slack.

Mark, I'd like to be able to come up with a counterpoint, to your point, but I can't. The Stoner book is on my list but it sounds like I need to move it up the priority list, pronto.
