The IRS offers an "alternative fuel tax credit" to owners of hybrid vehicles or other more efficiently fueled cars. Be sure to attach form 8910 to your return.

But guess what Mr. Tax man my vehicle runs on Peanut Butter Sandwiches, potato salad and beer. The most efficient vehicle ever invented. A bowl of rice goes for miles. A snickers bar is good for an hour. A person on a bike burns 35 calories per "passenger mile" while a car burns about 1800. Clean burning, quiet, small, low impact in more ways than one and economical...the bicycle. How about a little something for the little guy?

We're all just riding in circles on the coffee---beer continuum. Each of us holding down different spots, gravitating to our own preferences, depending on the time of day or the situation at hand. Like Patrick here. Even Jonny Sundt rides it. His line is a bit different from most, but he's still on the continuum. What time is it? Where am I? I'm thirsty.

Jonny was working the continum pretty hard at the old bike swap on Sunday. Irish Breakfast for all ex-messengers! I intended to come out of the fray with a set of nice track hubs for my race rig this year, but there wasn't one track hub or wheel for sale that wasn't on a bike already. So I bought a set of high flange Dura Ace track hubs and vintage Mavic GP 4 sew up rims from the Counterbalance. They have never let me down on track stuff. I did manage to come away with a bottle cage that will hold a bottle of wine or a 40oz of beer, so the sway became an official success. Didn't get to see Matt Bianchi slap the Jonny for $25 though, I guess the Rolling Stones were right.

IRS deduction for mileage in 2006: 44.5 cents per mile. That's what I get to deduct, although it is kind of a gray area on a motorcycle since the IRS doesn't acknowledge that as a legitimate vehicle to be delivering on, but fuck'em, they don't let you deduct for a pickup truck if you get technical. Too bad the congress cares fuck-all about bike messengers, although most of them are lawyers and use bicycle messengers everyday because they are too stupid (or busy) to do their own courthouse filings. I used to do the legal filings. It's no walk in the park. I think that you can deduct half of your food (fuel) costs if you talk about business while you are eating. If you need someone to vouch for you, I had "a business lunch" with you everyday last year, even if in spirit if not in body. Mostly, I'm just pissed there is no reason for me to work today because of a federal holiday for presidents that have been dead for over 150 years.
